Haun Ventures Secures $1 Billion to Back Early- and Late-Stage Crypto Startups While Expanding Into Artificial Intelligence

Venture capital firm Haun Ventures has successfully raised $1 billion to back both early- and late-stage crypto startups, marking a significant strategic evolution by expanding its investment mandate into artificial intelligence for the very first time. The newly secured capital will be strategically deployed across three primary technology pillars: crypto financial infrastructure, asset tokenization, and autonomous artificial intelligence agents.

The firm’s founder and managing partner, Katie Haun—a former United States government prosecutor who successfully transitioned into a prominent cryptocurrency executive—characterized these intersecting technological domains as the foundation of a sweeping "new economy." In a detailed blog post published on Monday, Haun reflected on the profound macroeconomic and technological shifts currently reshaping global markets, noting that the ongoing transformation represents an unprecedented era of innovation in both technology and finance.

Having spent her entire professional career analyzing and following the movement of global capital and assets, Haun described the current environment as the most dynamic period she has ever witnessed. She emphasized that the fundamental pillars supporting modern society—capital, commerce, and trust—are undergoing profound structural changes. According to the firm’s leadership, the entrepreneurs who possess the visionary capability to operate at the intersection of these evolving sectors and build scalable solutions accordingly will emerge as the definitive business leaders of this generation.

This multibillion-dollar capital raise represents a notable evolution for Haun Ventures. While the firm has historically concentrated its investment thesis exclusively on the digital asset and blockchain ecosystem, its deliberate expansion into artificial intelligence places it firmly alongside a broader, industry-wide rush of venture capital firms moving aggressively into the booming AI sector.

The venture landscape has experienced unprecedented capital concentration in artificial intelligence over recent years. According to market data published by Crunchbase in April, artificial intelligence firms captured a record-breaking $242 billion in venture capital funding during the first quarter of 2026 alone. This massive influx accounted for roughly 80% of total global venture capital funding during that specific quarter, a period that itself reached an all-time high of $300 billion in worldwide investments. By carving out a dedicated allocation for artificial intelligence within its new $1 billion fund, Haun Ventures is positioning itself to capture value where blockchain technology and artificial intelligence converge.

Haun’s Vision for AI Agents

Central to the firm’s newly expanded investment thesis is the concept of autonomous artificial intelligence agents—sophisticated software programs designed to autonomously perform complex tasks, execute decisions, and navigate digital environments without constant human intervention. Haun noted that these intelligent software agents will increasingly begin to conduct economic activity on behalf of users, necessitating the creation of an entirely new class of digital products and services specifically developed for a world in which computers act as the primary customers.

While the commercial footprint of autonomous software agents is currently in its nascent stages, the projected economic trajectory for machine-to-machine transactions is staggering. Data highlighted by Noah Levine, a partner at Andreessen Horowitz, indicates that AI agents currently account for a relatively small volume of direct payments, totaling approximately $1.6 million over a standard 30-day period as of early March. However, macroeconomic forecasts anticipate exponential growth in this sector. Projections from the Boston Consulting Group suggest that annual payment volumes conducted by autonomous software agents could skyrocket to $2.4 trillion a year by 2029.

To accommodate this monumental shift in how digital commerce is conducted, Haun argued that every supporting layer of the global financial architecture will need to be completely rearchitected. Essential commercial safeguards and verification systems—including fraud prevention, credit underwriting, insurance, identity management, data privacy, asset provenance, reputation tracking, and verification frameworks—will all require native versions designed specifically to support how autonomous agents transact. In her view, cryptographic tools will play a crucial, foundational role in securing and facilitating this machine-driven economy.

Parallel to the rise of autonomous software agents, Haun pointed out that the core plumbing of global finance is actively being overhauled to support an always-on, digital-first world. Among the most transformative technologies driving this plumbing upgrade is tokenization. By converting traditional physical and financial assets—such as gold and commodities like oil—into programmable digital tokens, tokenization allows these assets to become borderless, accessible around the clock, and fundamentally programmable.

In an interview with Bloomberg following the fund announcement, Haun elaborated on the firm’s strategic approach to its new AI mandate. She clarified that Haun Ventures does not intend to invest indiscriminately across the entire artificial intelligence landscape, but rather aims to focus strictly on the cross-section where AI agents intersect with core crypto infrastructure. The firm’s objective is to deploy capital into artificial intelligence initiatives that remain directly relevant to its core operational expertise, pursuing what she described as "AI that is in our lane."
