Visa (NYSE: V) has announced a significant suite of three new capabilities spanning commercial card growth, virtual card security, and agentic commerce for business-to-business (B2B) payments. Designed for financial institutions, fintech partners, and modern enterprises, these new offerings aim to streamline and automate complex payment workflows while preserving the rigorous trust, visibility, and regulatory controls required in today’s increasingly digital financial landscape.
As corporations worldwide accelerate their digital transformations, the push to automate manual tasks—ranging from supplier discovery and vendor onboarding to invoice approvals and final settlement—has become a top priority. Darren Parslow, global head of Visa Commercial Solutions, noted that businesses are moving rapidly to modernize how they handle operational transactions. These newly unveiled capabilities are tailored to assist organizations in scaling that automation without sacrificing data integrity, robust security, or operational oversight. Whether companies are looking to expand commercial card acceptance, protect vulnerable virtual card transactions from sophisticated fraud schemes, or experiment with how autonomous artificial intelligence agents can safely act on their behalf, Visa is positioning its network to handle the shift.
Helping Financial Institutions Find Commercial Card Growth
To address the growing need for actionable market data, Visa has introduced the next generation of its Supplier Enablement Spend Analytics platform, known as SESA 2.0. Building upon four years of proven industry experience in helping financial institutions evaluate and unlock supplier payment opportunities, SESA 2.0 brings together advanced artificial intelligence-driven supplier scoring, proprietary Visa commercial payments data, granular buyer benchmarks, and sophisticated business-value modeling.
Together, these integrated components allow financial institutions to pinpoint specific suppliers who exhibit a higher statistical likelihood of accepting commercial card payments, thereby accurately estimating prospective commercial card growth opportunities. Since its initial market rollout, the underlying SESA framework has successfully assisted financial institutions in uncovering more than $600 billion in potential cardable spend.
As the broader business payments ecosystem continues its migration toward digital-first models, financial institutions require both a comprehensive macro view of prospective card acceptance opportunities and the granular, data-driven insights necessary to evaluate those opportunities with absolute confidence. Enhanced visibility into card acceptance patterns empowers both buyers and suppliers to make informed decisions as they update and streamline their overarching payment flows.
Strengthening Trust in Commercial Virtual Card Payments
Alongside analytics enhancements, Visa unveiled Visa Commercial Fraud Solutions, a comprehensive suite of capabilities engineered specifically to reinforce security across commercial virtual card transactions and support seamless, automated payment experiences.
Industry projections from Juniper Research underscore the urgency of these security measures, estimating that global B2B virtual card payment volume will surge to $14.6 trillion by 2029, accounting for an impressive 83 percent of the global virtual card market. This massive expansion places mounting operational pressure on organizations to rigorously verify vendors, authenticate active users, and guarantee that corporate funds are disbursed precisely as intended.
Visa Commercial Fraud Solutions provides specialized defensive layers across three critical stages of a commercial transaction lifecycle. By addressing fraud vulnerabilities proactively before, during, and after payment execution, the suite aims to secure the rapidly expanding virtual card ecosystem against emerging cyber threats.

Within this framework, Visa Commercial Payment Controls are already accessible in supported geographic territories to eligible issuing financial institutions. Meanwhile, two companion features—Visa Commercial Virtual Authentication and Visa Commercial Supplier Validation—are currently undergoing live pilots and are slated for general commercial availability by 2027.
Testing How Trusted AI Agents Can Complete Business Payments
In a move that signals the dawn of agentic commerce in corporate finance, Visa has partnered with BILL and Billtrust to launch a live, end-to-end pilot program. This initiative enables trusted artificial intelligence agents to independently initiate and successfully complete approved business invoice payments directly through established supplier portals.
The pilot leverages advanced architectures from Visa Intelligent Commerce and Visa’s proprietary Trusted Agent Protocol. These foundational protocols work in tandem to establish the precise digital identity of the AI agent, formally confirm that the agent holds the requisite authorization to act on behalf of the enterprise, and ensure that every transaction strictly adheres to pre-defined corporate controls and transparency parameters.
Rather than relying on traditional, vulnerable methods such as sharing supplier-portal login credentials among human employees or software tools, the system utilizes tokenized payment credentials. It securely bridges buyer-side invoice approvals with supplier-side payment acceptance mechanisms. This innovative approach gives businesses a controlled environment to test fully automated execution while retaining complete oversight regarding who is acting, what specific actions the AI agent is authorized to perform, and which financial transactions have received formal authorization.
The pilot is currently operational, successfully processing end-to-end transactions involving participating BILL customers and Billtrust suppliers in a live production setting.
Building a Trusted Foundation for Automated Commerce
As business-to-business payments undergo profound automation, establishing enduring trust has emerged as the critical foundation required for this technology to scale effectively across global markets. The future trajectory of commercial payments will likely rely not only on the sheer speed at which capital can move across borders, but equally on whether every individual participant, digital credential, and automated action can be reliably identified, authenticated, and governed.
Achieving this level of resilience demands accurate data, verified identities, and multi-layered fraud controls designed to ensure that authorized transactions execute precisely as planned. By making targeted investments across the entire payment lifecycle, Visa aims to help businesses maintain absolute confidence in the identity of actors, the validity of authorizations, and the integrity of completed payments. Embedding this robust framework of trust into every phase of the transaction process helps commercial enterprises transition seamlessly from automated decision-making to final execution with heightened speed, security, and institutional control.
