Visa Unveils Advanced Capabilities to Bring Trust and Control to the Future of Business Payments

Visa (NYSE: V) has announced a significant expansion of its commercial payment offerings, introducing a trio of new capabilities designed to address the evolving needs of financial institutions, fintechs, and modern businesses. As corporate commerce increasingly shifts toward automation, digital efficiency, and artificial intelligence, the newly unveiled features focus on commercial card growth, virtual card security, and pioneering agentic commerce. These tools are engineered to help organizations streamline their complex payment processes while maintaining the high levels of trust, visibility, and rigorous control that large-scale business transactions demand.

The commercial payments landscape is undergoing a profound structural transformation. Businesses are moving quickly to automate the heavy lifting associated with corporate spending—from discovering new supplier acceptance opportunities and approving multi-layered invoices to executing seamless financial transactions. Darren Parslow, global head of Visa Commercial Solutions, noted that these new capabilities are designed to facilitate that operational shift by providing the critical data, security, and governance enterprises require. Whether companies are looking to expand commercial card acceptance, protect sensitive virtual card payments from sophisticated fraud schemes, or safely test how trusted autonomous AI agents can act on their behalf, Visa’s latest innovations aim to provide a reliable foundation.

Helping Financial Institutions Find Commercial Card Growth

To address the ongoing digitization of corporate procurement and B2B settlements, Visa has introduced the next generation of its Supplier Enablement Spend Analytics platform, known as SESA 2.0. This advanced offering builds directly upon four years of proven industry experience in helping financial institutions evaluate and capture prospective supplier payment opportunities. SESA 2.0 brings together a powerful combination of artificial intelligence-driven supplier scoring, proprietary Visa commercial payments data, granular buyer benchmarks, and sophisticated business-value modeling.

Through this multi-faceted approach, the platform helps financial institutions systematically identify suppliers that exhibit a higher likelihood of accepting commercial card payments, while simultaneously estimating prospective commercial card growth opportunities across various markets. Since the initial launch of the technology, the SESA framework has successfully helped financial institutions uncover more than $600 billion in potential cardable spend globally.

As business-to-business payments become increasingly digital and interconnected, financial institutions require both a comprehensive, clear-eyed view of where card acceptance opportunities actually exist and the granular data necessary to evaluate those opportunities with absolute confidence. Enhanced visibility into card acceptance patterns enables both suppliers and buyers to make more informed, strategic decisions as they work to modernize their legacy payment flows and optimize working capital management.

Strengthening Trust in Commercial Virtual Card Payments

Alongside analytics enhancements, Visa has introduced Visa Commercial Fraud Solutions, a robust suite of specialized capabilities designed to significantly strengthen security across commercial virtual card payments and support safer, fully automated payment experiences.

This rollout comes at a time of massive market expansion. According to projections by Juniper Research, global B2B virtual card payment volume is expected to surge dramatically, reaching $14.6 trillion by the year 2029. This staggering figure will represent approximately 83 percent of the total global virtual card market. However, as adoption rates accelerate and transaction volumes scale upward, organizations face mounting operational pressures to properly verify suppliers, rigorously authenticate users, and ensure that every outbound payment is executed precisely as intended without unauthorized deviations.

Visa announces enhanced capabilities that can bring trust and control to the future of business payments

Visa Commercial Fraud Solutions is structured to provide comprehensive protection across three distinct and critical stages of a commercial payment lifecycle. As these security tools roll out across the financial ecosystem, Visa Commercial Payment Controls are already available in supported countries and territories to eligible issuing financial institutions. Meanwhile, Visa Commercial Virtual Authentication and Visa Commercial Supplier Validation are currently undergoing live pilots and are slated for general availability in 2027.

Testing How Trusted AI Agents Can Complete Business Payments

In a move that signals a leap forward into the future of autonomous corporate commerce, Visa has partnered with BILL and Billtrust to launch a live pilot that enables trusted artificial intelligence agents to independently initiate and successfully complete approved business invoice payments directly through supplier portals.

This groundbreaking pilot draws heavily from Visa Intelligent Commerce and Visa’s proprietary Trusted Agent Protocol. These foundational frameworks work in tandem to reliably establish the true identity of an autonomous agent, confirm that the agent is explicitly authorized to act on behalf of the enterprise, and verify that the transaction strictly adheres to pre-defined business controls and governance visibility. Rather than relying on traditional, risky methods such as sharing supplier-portal login credentials, the system utilizes secure, tokenized payment credentials. It bridges buyer-side invoice approval workflows with supplier-side payment acceptance systems. This architecture provides businesses with a secure, controlled environment to test automated execution while maintaining total visibility into who is acting, what specific permissions the agent holds, and which transactions have received official authorization.

The pilot is already live and actively processing end-to-end transactions involving participating BILL customers and Billtrust suppliers, marking a milestone in the practical application of agentic commerce within B2B ecosystems.

Building a Trusted Foundation for Automated Commerce

As business payments become increasingly automated, trust serves as the foundational pillar that allows automation to safely scale across global markets. The future of commercial payments depends heavily not just on the raw speed at which money can move from one account to another, but equally on whether every individual participant, digital credential, and automated action can be reliably identified, authenticated, and governed.

Achieving this standard requires dependable data, trusted digital identities, and advanced fraud controls engineered specifically to ensure approved transactions execute precisely as intended. By making targeted investments across every phase of the payment process, Visa is working to help businesses maintain absolute confidence in who is taking action, what has been authorized, and how financial settlements are completed. Embedding trust into each stage of the transaction process enables enterprises to transition smoothly from approved corporate decisions to final execution with heightened speed, robust security, and strict operational control.
