Crypto Super PAC Fairshake Pushes Spending Past $40 Million to Defeat Ohio’s Sherrod Brown

Crypto’s largest political spender is turning up the pressure on one of the industry’s fiercest critics, cementing a targeted campaign that has become the most expensive battleground of the current election cycle. Fairshake, the dominant super PAC backed by digital asset heavyweights, has reported fresh spending aimed at defeating Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown in Ohio, driving its total financial outlay against the former Senate Banking Committee chairman well past the $40 million mark.

According to a Federal Election Commission (FEC) filing signed on October 15, Defend American Jobs—the Fairshake affiliate focused on deploying resources in Republican-friendly races—disclosed a substantial $5.2 million media buy opposing Brown. This was swiftly followed by another media buy of approximately $1.95 million days later, alongside associated media-production costs.

The new financial disclosures peg Brown’s calendar-year-to-date total opposition spending at roughly $46.66 million. This figure firmly establishes the Ohio Senate contest as the single most expensive target of the cryptocurrency industry’s campaign strategy. The same FEC filing also documented parallel spending designed to support Brown’s Republican opponent, Jon Husted, who inherited the seat following an appointment last year.

These staggering sums dwarf what Fairshake is deploying across other legislative contests nationwide, underscoring just how personal and strategic the Ohio race has become for digital asset advocates. The super PAC had earlier signaled plans to allocate at least $30 million to unseat Brown, a threshold that the latest regulatory filings demonstrate has already been thoroughly eclipsed.

The intense focus on Brown stems from his long-standing and influential role in financial regulation. A return to the Senate for Brown would instantly hand crypto skeptics a powerful, experienced voice on the Senate Banking Committee. This is the exact legislative perch from which Brown successfully stalled critical market-structure legislation before losing his seat, a high-stakes defeat that Fairshake previously spent roughly $40 million to help engineer. For the digital asset industry, ensuring that a prominent critic does not regain that platform remains a top legislative priority.

Crypto Super PAC Fairshake Pours Millions More Into Defeating Sherrod Brown

This renewed and aggressive Senate blitz comes on the heels of Fairshake broadening its electoral map to encompass the House of Representatives. On October 5, the bipartisan super PAC network announced that it would throw its financial weight behind 32 House incumbents, comprising 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats. In rolling out these endorsements, the group framed itself as a pragmatic, issue-focused coalition dedicated to supporting pro-crypto candidates from both major political parties who champion American technological innovation.

As part of that broader House strategy, Fairshake committed an initial $6 million—breaking down to $1 million each—to six key lawmakers. This group includes Republicans French Hill, Bill Huizenga, and Bryan Steil, alongside Democrats Janelle Bynum, Steven Horsford, and Derek Tran. Notably, all 32 supported candidates voted in favor of advancing the Clarity Act when the comprehensive digital asset market structure bill passed through the House in July 2025.

Fairshake’s immense financial horsepower is derived from contributions provided by some of the most prominent companies and venture capital firms in the digital asset ecosystem, including Coinbase, Ripple, and Andreessen Horowitz. The political action committee entered September with roughly $120 million in available cash reserves, and industry observers expect the group to spend upwards of $100 million across a wide array of House and Senate races over the course of the election cycle.

This coordinated political push operates alongside other major digital asset advocacy efforts, such as the Coinbase-backed group Stand With Crypto, which has rolled out its own distinct slate of midterm endorsements and voter mobilization campaigns. Together, these organizations represent a unified political front for an industry that has steadily grown more organized and aggressive in Washington.

The unprecedented spending reflects the digital asset sector’s hardened resolve following the legislative setbacks faced when the Clarity Act stalled in the Senate. By channeling their considerable financial war chest directly into federal elections, industry leaders are seeking to fundamentally reshape the composition of the U.S. Congress, ensuring that the lawmakers who ultimately write the rules governing cryptocurrency and blockchain technology in the years ahead are aligned with their vision for financial innovation.
