Visa (NYSE: V) has announced a major expansion of its commercial payment ecosystem, introducing three distinct capabilities tailored for commercial card growth, virtual card security, and agentic commerce. The newly unveiled offerings are engineered to assist financial institutions, fintech companies, and modern enterprises in automating complex payment workflows while retaining the vital levels of trust, visibility, and control that high-volume B2B transactions demand.
As the global business landscape rapidly digitizes, corporate treasury and accounts payable departments face mounting pressure to streamline operations. From sourcing new supplier payment opportunities to approving routine invoices and executing final settlements, automation has become a primary driver of efficiency.
“Businesses are moving quickly to automate the work around payments, from identifying supplier opportunities to approving invoices and executing transactions,” said Darren Parslow, global head of Visa Commercial Solutions. “These capabilities are designed to help them do that with the data, security and controls they need — whether they are growing commercial card acceptance, helping protect virtual-card payments from fraud, or testing how trusted AI agents can act on their behalf.”
Helping Financial Institutions Find Commercial Card Growth
To address the ongoing evolution in commercial finance, Visa has introduced the next generation of its Supplier Enablement Spend Analytics platform, known as SESA 2.0. Drawing on four years of deep industry experience in helping financial institutions evaluate and capture supplier payment opportunities, SESA 2.0 integrates advanced artificial intelligence-driven supplier scoring with robust Visa commercial payments data, comprehensive buyer benchmarks, and precise business-value modeling.
This sophisticated combination allows financial institutions to pinpoint suppliers that exhibit a higher likelihood of accepting commercial card payments, thereby estimating potential commercial card growth opportunities with greater accuracy. Since its initial inception, the SESA framework has successfully assisted financial institutions in uncovering more than $600 billion in potential cardable spend.
As business transactions continue their rapid migration toward digital formats, financial institutions require both a clear panoramic view of potential card acceptance channels and granular data to evaluate those opportunities with absolute confidence. Enhanced visibility into card acceptance empowers both suppliers and buyers to make well-informed decisions as they modernize legacy payment flows.
Strengthening Trust in Commercial Virtual Card Payments
Alongside analytics upgrades, Visa has introduced Visa Commercial Fraud Solutions, a comprehensive suite of security capabilities designed to reinforce safety across commercial virtual card payments and facilitate smoother, more secure automated payment experiences.
Recent market projections from Juniper Research indicate that global B2B virtual card payment volume will reach a staggering $14.6 trillion by the year 2029, accounting for roughly 83 percent of the total global virtual card market. As this adoption curve steepens, organizations face intensifying pressures to thoroughly verify suppliers, authenticate end-users, and guarantee that corporate funds are disbursed precisely as intended.

Visa Commercial Fraud Solutions provides specialized protection across three critical stages of a commercial payment lifecycle. By addressing vulnerabilities at the point of issuance, authentication, and supplier onboarding, the suite aims to mitigate the rising threats of digital fraud in corporate finance.
Within this framework, Visa Commercial Payment Controls are already available in supported countries and territories to eligible issuing financial institutions. Meanwhile, Visa Commercial Virtual Authentication and Visa Commercial Supplier Validation are currently undergoing live pilot phases and are scheduled for general market availability by 2027.
Testing How Trusted AI Agents Can Complete Business Payments
In a move that signals the dawn of next-generation commercial automation, Visa has partnered with BILL and Billtrust to launch a live pilot that enables trusted artificial intelligence agents to independently initiate and complete approved business invoice payments directly through supplier portals.
The pioneering pilot leverages Visa Intelligent Commerce alongside Visa’s proprietary Trusted Agent Protocol. This technical architecture is designed to securely establish the AI agent’s digital identity, confirm that the agent holds the necessary authorization to act on behalf of the enterprise, and ensure that every transaction strictly adheres to business-defined parameters, operational controls, and audit visibility.
Rather than relying on vulnerable, shared supplier-portal login credentials, the system utilizes tokenized payment credentials. It bridges the gap between buyer-side invoice approval and supplier-side payment acceptance. This setup provides enterprises with a practical, secure environment to test automated execution while maintaining rigorous oversight regarding who is acting, what specific permissions the agent holds, and which financial transactions have received formal authorization.
The pilot is currently live and actively processing end-to-end transactions involving participating BILL customers and Billtrust suppliers.
Building a Trusted Foundation for Automated Commerce
As the automation of business payments accelerates across global markets, establishing an unwavering foundation of trust is becoming a prerequisite for scaling operations. The future trajectory of commercial payments relies not merely on the speed at which funds can travel across borders and banking networks, but equally on whether every market participant, digital credential, and automated action can be reliably identified, authenticated, and governed.
Achieving this level of operational resilience demands dependable data streams, verified digital identities, and proactive fraud controls engineered to ensure approved transactions execute precisely as planned. Through continuous investments across every phase of the transaction lifecycle, Visa aims to help businesses sustain absolute confidence in who is acting on their behalf, what has been authorized, and how payments are ultimately completed. By embedding trust directly into the transaction process, organizations can transition smoothly from approved corporate decisions to final execution with heightened speed, uncompromised security, and strict financial control.
