American Bitcoin, the high-profile mining venture backed by members of the Trump family, has staged a dramatic financial turnaround, posting a net profit of approximately $126 million for the third quarter. The result marks a sharp and welcome reversal from the substantial losses recorded just three months prior, propelled primarily by a significant increase in the book value of Bitcoin and a disciplined approach to asset accumulation.
The Nasdaq-listed enterprise, which operates under the ticker symbol ABTC and is majority-owned by prominent crypto miner Hut 8, reported net income of roughly $126 million for the quarter ending September 30. This performance stands in stark contrast to the previous quarter, during which the company absorbed a net loss of $57.2 million. The latest figures represent the firm’s most lucrative financial showing to date since transitioning into the public markets.
Underpinning this profitability was a massive surge in adjusted EBITDA, which came in at approximately $221 million for the quarter. This represents an extraordinary recovery compared to the $45 million adjusted EBITDA loss posted in the prior three-month period. Financial disclosures reveal that the vast majority of this positive swing was driven by a $197 million gain on the company’s digital asset holdings, reflecting the broader upward trajectory of Bitcoin’s market valuation over the course of the quarter.
Beyond the favorable accounting adjustments resulting from crypto price movements, American Bitcoin also expanded its core digital treasury. The company grew its total Bitcoin reserves to approximately 8,427 BTC by the end of September. This represents an addition of roughly 425 coins, or a 5% increase, compared to the close of June.
Notably, this expansion in treasury holdings was achieved without any direct market purchases of Bitcoin or the issuance of new equity through the company’s at-the-market program during the quarter. Instead, the firm relied entirely on its internal mining output to grow its reserves. This strategy also enabled the company to lift its "satoshis per share"—a key metric tracking the amount of underlying Bitcoin backing each individual share of stock—by approximately 5% over the same timeframe.
Company leadership was quick to praise the quarter’s financial outcomes amid a broader industry backdrop defined by regulatory scrutiny and market volatility. Eric Trump, the co-founder and chief strategy officer of American Bitcoin, highlighted the significance of the numbers. He touted both the robust profitability and the steady growth in Bitcoin per share as evidence of the venture’s resilience in what he characterized as a challenging digital asset market.

Meanwhile, CEO Mike Ho attributed the success to the execution of a disciplined, Bitcoin-denominated operating model. Ho emphasized that the company has continued to successfully mine Bitcoin at a structural discount relative to the prevailing spot market prices, shielding the business from some of the heavier pressures faced by competitors.
Despite the impressive bottom-line profits, the underlying mining operations themselves actually faced a slightly more demanding operational environment during the third quarter. American Bitcoin mined approximately 891 BTC during the period, marking a decline from the 932 coins produced in the preceding quarter. At the same time, the cost to mine each individual Bitcoin climbed to roughly $42,100, up from $36,500 in the second quarter.
Management pointed to higher seasonal power costs as the primary driver behind the rising production expenses. Consequently, the company’s gross margin experienced a moderate contraction, slipping from 49% in the previous quarter down to 41%. Even with these rising operational hurdles, the company maintained a massive operational footprint, concluding the quarter with an active fleet of approximately 89,242 mining rigs delivering 28.1 exahashes per second of total hashing capacity.
The third-quarter financial triumph arrives on the heels of a highly volatile stretch for the enterprise. Earlier in the year, American Bitcoin celebrated a record mining performance that saw its treasury cross the milestone of 8,000 BTC. However, those operational achievements failed to translate into immediate stability for its equity value. The company’s stock has faced intense downward pressure, hitting new all-time lows that eventually forced management to execute a 1-for-15 reverse stock split in July in an effort to stabilize share pricing.
The difficulties on the public markets began shortly after the venture officially went public through a high-profile business combination with Gryphon Digital Mining. Since that market debut, the company’s shares have traded significantly below their initial listing price, reflecting both the inherent volatility of crypto-linked equities and the skepticism of some traditional institutional investors.
Furthermore, financial analysts note that while the company’s $126 million quarterly profit is undeniably striking, the figure is heavily reliant on non-operating factors. Because the windfall is largely attributable to an accounting gain tied directly to fluctuations in Bitcoin’s spot price rather than pure operating cash flow from mining, a sudden market downturn or correction in the price of Bitcoin could just as easily swing the company’s financial statements back into the red in subsequent quarters.
