Crypto Super PAC Fairshake Pushes Spending Past $40 Million to Defeat Senator Sherrod Brown in Ohio

The cryptocurrency industry’s dominant political spending machine is intensifying its campaign against one of Capitol Hill’s most vocal and persistent digital asset skeptics. Fairshake, the premier crypto super PAC, has reported a fresh wave of substantial expenditures aimed at defeating Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown in Ohio, driving its total financial outlay against the former Senate Banking Committee chairman well past the $40 million threshold.

According to a Federal Election Commission (FEC) filing signed on October 15, Defend American Jobs—the Fairshake-affiliated political action committee that primarily targets races in Republican-friendly jurisdictions—disclosed a major $5.2 million media buy opposing Brown. This was swiftly followed by another targeted media buy of approximately $1.95 million days later, alongside associated media-production costs.

The latest financial disclosures list Brown’s calendar-year-to-date opposition total at approximately $46.66 million. This staggering figure cements the Ohio congressional contest as by far the single most expensive target of the digital asset industry’s ongoing 2026 electoral campaign. The same regulatory filing also captured parallel spending designed to support Brown’s Republican opponent, Jon Husted, who inherited the seat following an appointment made last year.

These towering sums vastly outpace what Fairshake is deploying across other high-stakes political contests nationwide, underscoring how intensely personal the Ohio senate race has become for major industry stakeholders. The super PAC had earlier signaled plans to allocate at least $30 million toward defeating Brown, a preliminary goal that current filings show has already been thoroughly eclipsed.

For the digital asset sector, the stakes in Ohio could not be higher. A return to the Senate for Brown would instantly restore a powerful, influential voice for crypto skeptics sitting directly on the Senate Banking Committee. That was the very same legislative perch from which Brown successfully stalled comprehensive market-structure legislation before losing his seat during the 2024 elections—a defeat that Fairshake spent roughly $40 million to help engineer.

Crypto Super PAC Fairshake Pours Millions More Into Defeating Sherrod Brown

The renewed Senate blitz in the Midwest comes just days after the super PAC network significantly broadened its political map to encompass critical races in the House of Representatives. On October 5, the PAC network formally announced that it would throw its financial weight behind 32 House incumbents, comprising 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats. In rolling out these endorsements, Fairshake framed itself as a pragmatic, issue-focused coalition dedicated to supporting pro-crypto candidates from both major political parties who champion American technological innovation.

As part of this broader House strategy, the PAC committed an initial $6 million—allocating $1 million each—to six key lawmakers. This group includes Republican Representatives French Hill, Bill Huizenga, and Bryan Steil, alongside Democratic Representatives Janelle Bynum, Steven Horsford, and Derek Tran. Notably, all 32 supported lawmakers voted in favor of advancing the Clarity Act when the landmark legislation successfully passed through the House in July 2025.

Fairshake, which is financially backed by some of the most prominent institutional players in the digital asset ecosystem—including Coinbase, Ripple, and venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz—entered the month of September sitting on a formidable war chest of roughly $120 million in cash. Industry analysts and campaign finance watchers widely expect the PAC to expend more than $100 million across a diverse slate of both House and Senate races over the course of the current electoral cycle.

This aggressive legislative push operates in tandem with other industry-led advocacy efforts, most notably the Coinbase-backed grassroots group Stand With Crypto. That organization has independently rolled out its own extensive slate of midterm endorsements, further multiplying the political visibility and influence of digital asset advocates.

The massive capital deployment reflects a hardened resolve within the cryptocurrency sector following the legislative gridlock that ultimately stalled the Clarity Act in the Senate. By channeling their considerable financial resources into reshaping the composition of the United States Congress, major industry leaders are aiming to definitively influence the lawmakers who will ultimately write the definitive rulebook for the future of digital assets in America.
