HYPE, the native utility and governance token powering the decentralized Hyperliquid exchange, experienced a sharp market rally on Thursday, climbing approximately 13% to trade at around $91. The surge was catalyzed by a major announcement from the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE)—the corporate parent of the New York Stock Exchange—revealing a definitive agreement to introduce Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures to the United States market through a strategic partnership.
During Thursday’s trading session on platforms like KuCoin, the digital asset advanced swiftly from a daily opening price of $80.69, reaching an intraday high of $92.10. Even with the impressive double-digit rally, HYPE remained roughly 7% below its all-time high of nearly $98, a record set during a strong market push in September. With the day’s upward momentum, Hyperliquid’s total token valuation hovered at a robust market capitalization of approximately $22.4 billion, solidifying its standing as one of the most prominent decentralized finance ecosystems in the broader cryptocurrency landscape.
The catalyst behind the market excitement stems from a formal alliance between ICE and Trade[XYZ], a specialized financial platform that builds and operates markets for real-world assets utilizing Hyperliquid’s underlying infrastructure. Under the terms of the newly signed definitive agreement, ICE has secured a strategic equity stake in Trade[XYZ] and will act as the exclusive operator of the company’s regulated marketplace structures.
As part of this onshore expansion, ICE intends to develop a dedicated retail market and specialized clearing framework tailored to the product. Because the initiative introduces novel regulatory components to the U.S. financial sector, the offering remains subject to rigorous regulatory approvals and currently does not have a finalized launch date.
Perpetual futures, commonly referred to as perpetuals, are a specialized class of financial derivatives that feature no fixed expiration date. They allow market participants to establish leveraged trading positions, meaning they can amplify their market exposure using borrowed capital. Trade[XYZ] has already established a presence outside the United States, offering eligible international users around-the-clock perpetual markets covering traditional equities, broad equity indices, major commodities, and foreign currencies, all powered by Hyperliquid’s high-performance decentralized architecture.
The partnership has already attracted high-profile endorsement from traditional finance heavyweights. Stan Druckenmiller, the celebrated macro investor who managed the Duquesne Capital hedge fund for approximately three decades and famously reported never experiencing a losing calendar year, publicly voiced his support for the initiative. Participating as an investor in Trade[XYZ], Druckenmiller took to social media to share his enthusiasm for the project.

"I am excited to be an investor in trade(xyz) as they partner with ICE to bring 24/7 perpetual futures on Hyperliquid to the United States," Druckenmiller wrote on X. "As a market participant, I am looking forward to using their innovative product to enhance my investment process."
To ensure full compliance with domestic regulatory standards, the planned U.S. markets are being designed to adhere strictly to established know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money-laundering (AML) mandates, which require comprehensive identity verification protocols for all participating traders. Furthermore, ICE will actively pursue the necessary regulatory permissions to fully support leveraged trading frameworks within the domestic market.
Verified customers who wish to access the platform will connect through futures commission merchants—the licensed professional brokers responsible for managing customer futures accounts. Additionally, ICE plans to distribute the innovative product through its existing joint venture with OKX, which likewise has its own regulatory approvals pending. ICE previously established a deep financial tie with OKX by acquiring a stake in the major crypto exchange in March at a valuation of $25 billion.
Jeffrey Sprecher, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ICE, characterized the introduction of perpetual futures as an expansionary step rather than a competitive disruption. He described the offering as additive to the firm’s established futures markets, explicitly noting that it is not designed to serve as a replacement for them. According to company metrics, more than 99% of participation across ICE’s existing platforms originates from institutional entities. Consequently, retail traders represent an entirely new business segment for the exchange operator, prompting ICE to manage the new unit as a separate operational entity distinct from its core institutional futures and clearing franchise.
The latest development follows a series of high-level political and regulatory signals regarding the protocol’s status. In August, President Donald Trump publicly stated that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) was actively working to establish pathways that would allow Hyperliquid to operate legally within the United States, where the platform has historically been geofenced. With ICE now spearheading an institutionalized, compliant approach to bringing Hyperliquid’s underlying mechanics onshore, market participants continue to monitor the regulatory horizon for further developments concerning the official rollout of the product.
