Onchain credit platform Ibis has officially launched out of stealth, announcing a significant $250 million credit facility provided by digital asset financial services firm FalconX alongside the successful completion of its closed pre-seed funding round.
The dual announcement marks a notable step forward in bridging traditional institutional capital with decentralized, onchain debt markets. As the digital asset ecosystem continues to mature, industry stakeholders increasingly point to credit infrastructure as a critical missing piece required to unlock deeper liquidity, support fast-growing frontier markets, and provide sustainable, yield-bearing structured financial products for institutional participants.
Funding and Strategic Backing
Ibis officially emerged from stealth on October 28, backed by the substantial $250 million credit facility from FalconX and a diverse pre-seed funding round. The investment syndicate for the pre-seed round was led by FalconX and included a broad consortium of digital asset and capital markets institutional investors.
Participants in the funding round included Anchorage Digital, Innovating Capital, and notable executives from prominent financial and blockchain organizations such as Revolut, Injective Foundation, Superstate, Agora, Blockchain.com, and Pyth. The roster of high-profile industry executives supporting Ibis also features Jordi Alexander, CEO of Selini; Shiliang Tang, managing partner at Monarq Asset Management; Mirza Uddin, Chief Operating Officer of the Injective Foundation; Roshun Patel, head of credit and alternatives at Erebor; and Nick van Eck, CEO of Agora.
The backing reflects a broader trend across the digital asset industry, where financial institutions are increasingly building out structured credit products and tokenized lending vaults to connect institutional capital allocators with emerging onchain participants. Over the past few years, FalconX has concentrated heavily on this exact intersection. In August, the firm partnered with Ethena Labs on a $1 billion warehouse financing facility executed via a special purpose vehicle (SPV). That facility deploys capital backed by USDe into overcollateralized institutional credit loans, which are serviced and managed directly by FalconX.
Furthermore, FalconX has systematically expanded its tokenized credit products and onchain lending vaults onto emerging Layer 1 and Layer 2 blockchain networks. These systems increasingly incorporate sophisticated technological safeguards, such as automated margin controls, real-time collateral monitoring, and secure onchain settlement layers.
Ibis enters this evolving landscape with a comprehensive, end-to-end institutional credit platform engineered to handle the full lifecycle of structured credit facilities. The platform is designed to originate, tokenize, underwrite, risk-manage, and service complex credit instruments. By doing so, Ibis aims to address a long-standing structural gap prevalent in frontier markets, where legacy financial infrastructure frequently fails to accommodate emerging industries characterized by non-standard collateral types and complex, rapidly evolving risk profiles.
Cooper Emmons, founder and CEO of Ibis, emphasized the systemic challenges facing modern growth sectors under traditional financial frameworks. Frontier markets are developing at a pace that vastly outstrips the financial infrastructure built to support them, according to Emmons. Today, many high-quality businesses possessing strong underlying fundamentals remain underserved—not due to any fundamental lack of creditworthiness, but rather because traditional underwriters refuse to innovate or adapt their models.
At launch, the Ibis platform is targeting institutions operating within the digital asset and prediction markets sectors. However, the company has established a clear roadmap to expand its specialized credit infrastructure into additional frontier market segments over time.
To ensure robust security and regulatory compliance, Ibis has integrated key institutional partners into its operational model. Anchorage Digital Bank will serve as a core custody, banking, and design partner, ensuring that all underlying collateral is safely secured within a fully regulated banking environment. Meanwhile, venture capital firm Innovating Capital will contribute specialized expertise in transaction structuring, risk management, and strategic development.
Joshua Lim, co-head of global markets at FalconX, highlighted the broader significance of the launch for the digital asset ecosystem, noting that access to reliable, institutional-grade credit represents an essential milestone for the continued maturation of digital assets. Ibis, Lim stated, is building the foundational infrastructure required to successfully bridge the gap between institutional capital allocators and a new generation of participants operating onchain.
Institutional Industry Support
The strong institutional backing for Ibis underscores a surging market demand for disciplined, yield-bearing structured credit products meticulously tailored for digital asset trading firms and emerging Web3 businesses. As capital markets become increasingly digitized, traditional lenders and crypto-native firms alike are seeking out compliant, transparent mechanisms to deploy liquidity.
Echoing these sentiments, Nathan McCauley, CEO and co-founder of Anchorage Digital, pointed out that credit remains one of the final pieces of institutional infrastructure that digital asset markets are actively constructing. Ibis is taking a notably disciplined approach to this challenge by utilizing structured facilities, rigorous underwriting standards, and collateral held securely within regulated custody at Anchorage Digital Bank. According to McCauley, this precise combination is what ultimately instills the confidence required for institutional capital to participate at scale.
