Pudgy Penguins Expands Trading Card Game to Target Stores Nationwide in Major Retail Push

Prominent non-fungible token (NFT) project Pudgy Penguins has significantly widened the physical retail footprint of its trading card game through a new nationwide rollout across Target retail locations throughout the United States.

According to a press release shared with Cointelegraph, the official launch of "Vibes Series 3" represents the trading card game’s most substantial brick-and-mortar retail expansion to date. This latest commercial milestone pushes the total circulation of physical Pudgy Penguins cards to an impressive 15 million units globally. The freshly introduced card set is packed with new updates designed to attract both traditional card collectors and web3 enthusiasts, featuring expanded gameplay mechanics, exclusive original artwork, and special guest appearances by beloved characters originating from the Moonbirds NFT collection.

Pudgy Penguins developed the Vibes trading card game franchise in close strategic partnership with Orange Cap Games. Series 3 directly follows two previous successful product releases that laid the foundation for the game’s physical distribution model. The underlying digital collectible project continues to maintain a dominant position within the broader blockchain ecosystem, standing as the fourth-largest NFT collection in the world ranked by total market capitalization, according to verified data from the tracking platform NFT Price Floor.

This sweeping nationwide retail rollout underscores how Pudgy Penguins is aggressively executing a long-term strategy to translate its digital, NFT-born intellectual property into mainstream consumer products. By bridging the gap between blockchain-based assets and physical retail shelves, the project aims to construct a much broader, enduring entertainment franchise that transcends the digital asset markets entirely.

Pudgy Penguins Builds Beyond NFTs into Mainstream Retail

For several years, the team behind Pudgy Penguins has focused heavily on transforming its Ethereum-based digital collectible collection into a universally recognized consumer brand. This multi-pronged brand evolution has successfully spanned a variety of traditional consumer verticals, including physical toys, intellectual property licensing deals, and lifestyle products.

Pudgy Penguins expands retail footprint with Target trading card rollout

The brand’s physical toy line first achieved a major mainstream milestone when it landed in more than 2,000 Walmart retail stores across the United States in 2023. Building on that initial momentum, Chief Executive Officer Luca Netz shared in May 2024 that the brand had successfully retailed more than 1 million individual toys over the preceding 12-month period, demonstrating robust consumer demand outside of crypto-native demographics.

Furthermore, the project’s innovative community-focused licensing model has created real-world economic incentives for its digital asset holders. Under this framework, individual NFT owners are eligible to receive 5 percent of the net revenue generated from physical merchandise that features their specific, individually owned penguin characters, effectively turning community members into brand stakeholders.

As the franchise has continued to mature, it has also branched out aggressively into the digital interactive gaming sector. Earlier in 2025, Pudgy Penguins officially launched Pengu Clash, a new gaming experience built on The Open Network (TON). At the time of that release, CEO Luca Netz emphasized that interactive gaming serves as a vital strategic vehicle for introducing the project’s distinct intellectual property to much wider, mainstream audiences who may not previously have interacted with web3 technologies.

The expansion into gaming continued with the rollout of a dedicated mobile game titled Pudgy Party in August 2025. According to official performance figures shared by Pudgy Penguins, the mobile title quickly surpassed 1 million total downloads following its debut. However, demonstrating a willingness to pivot and optimize resources in a fast-moving digital landscape, the project announced that it would halt further ongoing development of the mobile application in order to concentrate its technical resources and capital on a new browser-based gaming experience titled Pudgy World.
