Strategy Inc., the prominent bitcoin treasury and enterprise software firm trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker MSTR, has announced its third-quarter financial results for the period ending in late October 2026. The company posted a historic financial performance, fueled largely by substantial gains in its digital asset holdings. Alongside the blockbuster earnings, corporate leadership addressed key strategic updates, including the rollout of daily preferred stock dividends and an upcoming transition within the chief financial officer role.
The financial announcement captured widespread attention across both traditional equity markets and the cryptocurrency sector, highlighting the unique balance sheet structure of a company that operates simultaneously as a software provider and a major corporate holder of bitcoin.
Bitcoin Gains Lift Operating Profit to a Record
The defining highlight of Strategy Inc.’s third-quarter report was a record-shattering operating income of $20.91 billion, which translated to diluted earnings per share of $44.75. The remarkable figures stem primarily from $20.91 billion in digital asset valuation gains recognized during the quarter. This performance contrasts sharply with the same period a year earlier, when the company reported digital asset gains of $3.89 billion.
In corporate accounting, operating income measures the profit generated from core business operations after accounting for operating expenses, but before the deduction of interest and income taxes. Strategy Inc. incorporates bitcoin valuation adjustments directly into this calculation under its specialized financial reporting framework. Consequently, the massive appreciation in the value of its massive digital treasury flowed directly into the headline operating profit metrics.
Net income for the quarter reached $19.53 billion. Out of this total, $19.12 billion was directly attributable to common stockholders. While the company’s valuation metrics and operating profits reached unprecedented heights, traditional software revenue experienced a minor contraction, declining by 3% year-over-year to $125.4 million.
Chief Financial Officer Andrew Kang emphasized the historical significance of the quarter during the earnings announcement. He noted that the $21 billion in third-quarter operating income stands as the largest ever recorded in the history of the enterprise. Furthermore, Kang highlighted that the firm successfully raised $21 billion in equity capital while simultaneously expanding its total bitcoin holdings by 26% since the beginning of the year, all within the context of a notoriously challenging and volatile bitcoin market environment.
Adding an optimistic macro perspective to the corporate report, founder and Executive Chairman Michael Saylor delivered a sharply bullish outlook regarding the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem. Saylor stated that the digital asset market has arrived at the beginning of the next major bitcoin bull market. Supporting this thesis, he pointed to several key market developments, including increasing institutional demand, a growing realization and embrace of bitcoin by traditional banking institutions, and an expansion of bitcoin’s market dominance relative to other digital assets. Additionally, Saylor noted a strong technical indicator, observing that the spot price of bitcoin was trading roughly 21% above its crucial 200-week moving average.
Treasury Expands as Bitcoin Per Share Falls
Strategy Inc.’s aggressive accumulation strategy over recent years has transformed the firm into a corporate behemoth in terms of digital asset ownership. As of late October 2026, the company’s massive treasury held a total of 848,517 bitcoin. These holdings were acquired at a cumulative cost of $64.02 billion, representing an average purchase price of $75,446 per coin.
Throughout the year leading up to the report, the company aggressively continued its accumulation strategy, executing year-to-date bitcoin purchases totaling $14.33 billion. Based on a reference market price of $81,200 per coin observed in late October, the total market value of the corporate treasury stood at approximately $68.90 billion.
To put the scale of these holdings into perspective, Strategy Inc.’s reserve accounts for approximately 4% of the absolute maximum supply of bitcoin, which is hard-capped at 21 million coins. This heavy exposure to the premier cryptocurrency has historically created a high correlation between the firm’s equity performance and the underlying asset class. During the third quarter alone, MSTR common shares appreciated by an impressive 76%, outpacing the 43% price advance recorded by bitcoin over the exact same timeframe.
Despite the soaring valuation of the treasury and the strong performance of common shares, the company’s internal metrics tracking per-share bitcoin accumulation revealed some dilution challenges. The metric known as BTC Yield, which monitors the percentage change in the amount of bitcoin held per assumed diluted share, stood at a negative 3.7% year-to-date. This diluted share count calculation accounts for potential future share issuances stemming from convertible debt securities and outstanding equity awards. Because the share count expanded at a slightly faster rate than the raw accumulation of digital assets, the holdings grew more slowly relative to the fully diluted equity base.
Similarly, BTC Gain, a metric designed to express the absolute change in bitcoin units relative to the company’s beginning-of-year holdings, registered a negative 24,947 BTC result. This figure directly reflects the impact of per-share dilution. Company representatives noted that neither of these specialized internal metrics is intended to function as a measure of traditional investment returns.
Daily Dividends Accompany Finance Leadership Changes
In a parallel announcement that drew substantial interest from income-focused investors, Strategy Inc. shareholders officially approved a plan to institute daily preferred stock dividends. Starting in November, dividend accruals will begin for Stretch, designated by the ticker STRC, which operates as a variable-rate perpetual preferred stock. This will be followed by three fixed-rate perpetual preferred issues—Strife, Strike, and Stride, trading under the tickers STRF, STRK, and STRD respectively—which currently pay quarterly dividends and will transition to the new schedule at the beginning of 2027.
These preferred equity classes rank senior to MSTR common stock when it comes to the distribution of dividends, though they remain uncollateralized by Strategy Inc.’s vast bitcoin reserves. Under the newly approved mechanism, dividends will continue to accrue continuously through weekends and market holidays, with cash payments potentially consolidated and distributed together on standard business days.
Management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining STRC’s 12% annual dividend rate, a policy designed to support the security’s trading price near its $100 stated amount. To ensure robust financial stability, the company reported holding dollar-denominated assets totaling $5.07 billion. This cash reserve provides an estimated 3.4 years of forward coverage for both preferred dividend obligations and existing interest payments.
Corporate capital allocation during the final weeks of October focused heavily on supporting the preferred share structure rather than acquiring additional digital assets. The firm did not purchase any bitcoin during the specific observation window, opting instead to deploy $204.9 million toward repurchasing STRC shares. When including unsettled transactions, total year-to-date repurchases of the preferred stock reached $2.04 billion. To help fund these ongoing preferred dividend distributions and share buyback programs, Strategy Inc. sold approximately $431.8 million worth of bitcoin throughout the course of 2026.
Alongside the financial results and corporate policy updates, Strategy Inc. announced a forthcoming transition within its executive financial leadership. Andrew Kang is scheduled to step down from his role as Chief Financial Officer on November 5. He will, however, remain with the organization in an advisory capacity through the end of December to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.
During the interim period, President and Chief Executive Officer Phong Le will assume direct oversight of finance operations. Effective January 1, 2027, current Executive Vice President of Operations Reza Virasteh will officially step into the CFO position. Virasteh will serve as co-principal financial officer alongside Phong Le, who will maintain ongoing strategic responsibility for the financial management of the company’s core bitcoin accumulation strategy moving forward.
