Yuga Labs-Affiliated Developers Intervene to Rescue 68 NFTs Worth Over $500,000 From Flooring Protocol Exploit

Developers affiliated with Yuga Labs successfully rescued 68 non-fungible tokens from Flooring Protocol after a security exploit threatened high-value digital assets, including pieces from premier collections like Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks.

Yuga Labs CEO Michael Figge announced on Monday that the recovered non-fungible tokens are currently held in the company’s secure custody. He assured the digital asset community that these items will be safely returned to their rightful owners once a comprehensive solution is finalized and verified.

Adding technical clarity to the rescue operation, Yuga’s pseudonymous vice president of blockchain, known within the community as 0xQuit, revealed that the emergency intervention covered a collection of digital assets valued at over $500,000.

Despite a prolonged cooling period across the broader non-fungible token market, elite collections continue to command substantial floor prices that make them high-value targets for exploits. According to data from CoinGecko, CryptoPunks maintained a significant floor price of around 32.7 Ether, translating to roughly $54,612 per token. Meanwhile, tokens from the Bored Ape Yacht Club ecosystem sat comfortably around 9.16 Ether each.

Flooring Protocol Was Already Winding Down

The security incident struck a platform that had already been actively winding down operations for parts of its consumer-facing non-fungible token business. Floor Protocol officially announced in September 2025 that its Web3 consumer services were entering a sunset mode. During that announcement, the protocol strongly advised FPv2 token holders to redeem their underlying non-fungible tokens and successfully exit any fractional positions before a hard deadline of Oct. 15, 2025.

Elaborating on the circumstances leading up to the exploit, the protocol’s former CEO, operating under the pseudonym FreeLunchCapital, explained that the platform had faced persistent liquidity challenges and internal organizational changes. These structural shifts ultimately left critical parts of the non-fungible token division unmanaged.

FreeLunchCapital noted that they had continued providing liquidity independently and maintained personal non-fungible token assets directly on the platform to help regular users exit their positions safely. Unfortunately, those specific personal assets wound up becoming a primary target for malicious actors during the exploit.

In the wake of the incident, FreeLunchCapital confirmed they are currently engaged in active discussions with the parent group behind the management team in an effort to regain administrative control of the protocol and secure remaining infrastructure.

NFT Market Remains Far Below Peak Levels

While the wider non-fungible token market has fallen dramatically from its historic peak levels during previous bull cycles, the sector still represents billions of dollars in cumulative market value. Recent market data from CoinGecko highlighted that overall non-fungible token market capitalization climbed toward approximately $2 billion during late April and early May, before experiencing a downward correction back toward $1.4 billion.

Additional metrics tracked by NFT Price Floor confirmed that CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club continue to stand firmly as the two largest non-fungible token collections across the entire ecosystem by total market capitalization.

CryptoPunks boasted a massive market capitalization of roughly 339,400 Ether, which translates to approximately $560 million. Meanwhile, the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection stood resiliently at around 90,590 Ether, representing roughly $150 million in total market capitalization as the ecosystem navigates ongoing security challenges and market shifts.
