Crypto Venture Capital Firm Paradigm Secures $1.2 Billion for Fund IV to Expand Investments Into AI and Robotics

Paradigm has successfully raised $1.2 billion for its fourth flagship fund, marking a significant strategic evolution that will expand the prominent crypto venture capital firm’s investment scope into artificial intelligence, robotics, and other emerging frontier technologies.

The company announced the official closing of the milestone fund, emphasizing a dual mandate that bridges its crypto roots with broader technological frontiers. According to the firm, the latest capital vehicle is designed to invest first in crypto, and now across artificial intelligence, robotics, and other revolutionary sectors reshaping the global technology landscape.

While broadening its horizons, Paradigm made it clear that its commitment to the digital asset ecosystem remains robust. The firm stated that it continues investing in crypto and the reinvention of markets and the financial system. To underscore this ongoing dedication, Paradigm highlighted several of its recent notable investments within the crypto space, including the decentralized crypto perpetuals exchange Hyperliquid and the innovative prediction markets platform Kalshi.

Founded in 2018, Paradigm has built a formidable reputation as one of the premier venture capital firms dedicated exclusively to the digital asset sector. Prior to the launch of its fourth fund, the company had successfully raised more than $4 billion across three previous funds focused entirely on crypto and Web3 infrastructure. Its strategic pivot toward artificial intelligence reflects a broader, accelerating trend across the venture capital landscape, where historically crypto-focused institutions are increasingly drawn to the lucrative, fast-growing, and high-impact AI sector.

Reports first surfaced earlier in the year regarding Paradigm’s fundraising ambitions. The Wall Street Journal reported in February that the crypto venture capital firm was seeking to raise $1.5 billion for a new multi-sector vehicle aimed at artificial intelligence, robotics, and broader frontier technologies. Industry observers noted that Paradigm’s management ultimately decided to broaden its investment parameters to avoid being overly restricted by a single-sector mandate, ensuring the firm would not miss out on highly attractive and transformative deals across adjacent industries. Furthermore, leadership recognized a profound and growing technological overlap between crypto and artificial intelligence, most notably demonstrated by the rise of autonomous AI agents interacting directly with decentralized financial infrastructure.

This convergence has caught the attention of major industry players. Major crypto exchanges, including Crypto.com and Coinbase, have made substantial strategic bets on autonomous AI agents, actively offering specialized artificial intelligence technology to their retail and institutional users while updating their platforms to seamlessly cater to these automated digital participants.

Crypto Funding Sinks as AI Funding Peaks

Crypto VC Paradigm raises $1.2B to push into AI

Paradigm is far from alone in its strategic expansion beyond the confines of digital assets. A growing cohort of prominent crypto-native venture capital firms has similarly diversified their investment portfolios to capture opportunities in artificial intelligence and deep tech.

Framework Ventures set a similar precedent when it raised $400 million for its fourth fund, specifically designated to finance ventures spanning both crypto and artificial intelligence, alongside robotics and advanced energy solutions. Not long after, in May, crypto venture firm Haun Ventures secured $1 billion to back early-stage crypto startups while simultaneously expanding its mandate into artificial intelligence for the very first time in the firm’s operational history.

This widespread portfolio diversification coincides with a historic boom in the broader venture capital market. Global venture funding hit an extraordinary record of $510 billion in the first half of the year, establishing a new watermark for half-year investments that comfortably surpassed the $440 billion invested across the entirety of the previous year, according to market data published by Crunchbase.

Artificial intelligence companies commanded the lion’s share of this unprecedented capital influx, with dominant sector leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic accounting for more than 40 percent of all global venture funding deployed during the first half of the year.

In sharp contrast, the digital asset sector captured only a fractional share of overall global venture capital flows. Total venture funding directed into crypto startups during the first half of the year reached approximately $10.8 billion, according to analytics compiled by Cryptorank, highlighting a stark divergence in capital allocation patterns between the booming AI sector and the more selective crypto market.

Despite its expanded multi-sector focus, Paradigm’s portfolio deployment demonstrates that its non-crypto investments are targeted at similarly disruptive technology ecosystems. The firm’s expanding footprint outside of blockchain includes backing for high-profile innovators such as Zipline, an autonomous drone delivery service scaling complex logistics networks; SendCutSend, a robotic metal fabrication platform streamlining industrial manufacturing; and Nous Research, an advanced artificial intelligence company widely recognized for creating the open-source AI model Hermes Agent.

At the same time, Paradigm maintains a deeply active role in incubating and researching core infrastructure for the digital asset economy. The firm emphasized that it will continue to research and build wherever it accelerates the advancement of the cryptocurrency industry. This ongoing commitment is evidenced by its support for foundational blockchain development tools like Foundry and Reth, as well as specialized technical projects intersecting software security and machine learning, such as EVMbench and Centaur.
