Nearly 10% of Bitcoin Supply "Structurally Unsafe" From Potential Quantum Breakthrough, Glassnode Warns

As the cryptocurrency market navigates a complex macroeconomic and technical landscape, new data from analytics platform Glassnode has highlighted a long-term vulnerability lurking beneath the surface of the world’s leading digital asset. According to the firm, nearly 10% of the total Bitcoin supply is currently considered "structurally unsafe" in the event of a major quantum computing breakthrough.

The security concern stems from specific output types that inherently reveal public keys by design, independent of individual user address management practices. Totaling approximately 1.92 million Bitcoin, this vulnerable cohort encompasses several distinct categories of digital assets accumulated across different eras of the network’s history.

Writing in a social media post on X, Glassnode detailed that this exposed supply includes early Satoshi-era Pay-to-Public-Key (P2PK) outputs, legacy multi-signature structures known as Pay-to-Multisig (P2MS), and modern Pay-to-Taproot (P2TR) outputs. Because the architecture of these specific transaction types exposes the public key or a cryptographic equivalent directly on-chain, they could theoretically become susceptible to decryption if and when quantum computers achieve the processing power required to break standard cryptographic algorithms like ECDSA.

A significant portion of this vulnerable supply is tied directly to the network’s mysterious creator. Coins associated with Satoshi Nakamoto account for roughly 1.1 million Bitcoin, representing about 5.5% of the total circulating supply. Beyond the Satoshi-era coins, another 620,000 legacy tokens—accounting for 3.1% of the supply—alongside approximately 200,000 coins held in Taproot addresses, make up the remainder of the 1.92 million total. While quantum computing remains in experimental stages and years or even decades away from posing an immediate operational threat to cryptographic networks, the report underscores the long-term technical challenges that blockchain protocols will eventually need to address through future upgrades and soft or hard forks.

Ethereum Traders Say Bears "In Control" After ETH Price Drops to $2K

While Bitcoin faces long-term theoretical hurdles, Ethereum’s short-term price action has sparked immediate concern among market participants. Ether suffered a sharp decline last week following a failed attempt to breach resistance at the $2,400 level, tumbling as low as $2,100 on Monday and signaling that market bears have firmly regained control of the trend.

Data compiled from TradingView indicates that Ether was recently changing hands around $2,131, marking a 12% drop from its local high of $2,420, which was registered on May 6. Downward pressure intensified over the weekend when the ETH/USD trading pair touched $2,090 on the Bitstamp exchange, marking the asset’s lowest valuation since April 17. On a broader monthly timeframe, Ethereum has recorded a decline of over 8% over the past 30 days, reflecting a persistent cooling of sentiment across the broader altcoin sector.

Market analysts point to shifting volume dynamics on major derivatives and spot exchanges as a primary driver of the downturn. Order book metrics from Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, revealed an aggressive surge in seller dominance. Specifically, Binance’s taker buy volume—a metric tracking the total dollar value of aggressive sell orders executed by futures traders—surged past $1.1 billion within a single hour on Sunday as ETH breached key psychological support levels below the $2,100 threshold, confirming that bearish momentum was accelerating in the short term.

Ether Pullback Was "Attractive Opportunity" for 71,672 ETH Buy: Bitmine’s Lee

Despite the prevailing bearish sentiment and the sudden drop in Ether’s market price, institutional buyers are viewing the correction through a starkly different lens. Tom Lee, chairman of digital asset treasury firm Bitmine Immersion Technologies, announced that his company capitalized on the recent price contraction below $2,200 to significantly expand its corporate holdings.

According to Lee, Bitmine aggressively accumulated 71,672 Ether over the course of a single week, adding the tokens directly to its growing digital asset treasury. "Over the past week, we acquired 71,672 ETH. We view the recent pullback of ETH to below $2,200 as an attractive opportunity," Lee stated. He further noted that the firm remains on track to reach its long-term strategic accumulation targets, aiming to control roughly 5% of the circulating supply sometime in 2026.

Bitmine has positioned itself as the leading Ether treasury company in the digital asset ecosystem. The firm has maintained a consistent accumulation strategy, steadily buying up tokens even during periods of market distress and heightened volatility. This business model bears strong similarities to the corporate treasury strategies popularized by Michael Saylor’s Strategy, which has continuously stacked Bitcoin on its balance sheet regardless of macroeconomic headwinds.

XRP Price May Explode to $15 Amid "Quiet Accumulation," Analyst Claims

Amid broader market uncertainty, attention has also turned to alternative assets like XRP, which analysts believe could be quietly preparing for a massive structural breakout. According to market analyst Crypto Patel, XRP may be poised for a dramatic 10x to 15x price rally as it cycles through a phase of "quiet accumulation," comparing the current muted market behavior to the calm environment that preceded its major upward expansion in late 2024.

In a market update shared on social media, Patel pointed to the price range between $0.70 and $1.00 as a vital long-term accumulation zone. He argued that the current lack of retail hype and subdued social sentiment frequently characterize the foundations of a much larger upward move. The analyst’s technical charts indicate that XRP experienced a pullback after failing to clear resistance in the $3.20 to $3.50 region, subsequently drifting downward into a defined green demand zone that he characterizes as an exceptional market opportunity for patient investors.

Looking forward, Patel outlined ambitious long-term price targets at $5, $10, and $15. Achieving these levels would represent a tenfold to fifteenfold increase from the lower boundary of the current accumulation band, provided that XRP mirrors the structural expansion seen during its previous 2022–2024 market cycle. This historical comparison forms the backbone of the analyst’s strongly bullish outlook for the token.

Grayscale, VanEck Amend US Spot BNB ETF Filings, Stepping Closer to Potential Launch

In the regulatory sphere, momentum continues to build around novel cryptocurrency exchange-traded products in the United States. Major asset managers Grayscale Investments and VanEck took procedural steps toward a potential market introduction on Friday by submitting amended S-1 registration statements for their respective spot BNB exchange-traded funds.

Grayscale filed its second amendment for the proposed product, while VanEck submitted its fifth amendment to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. S-1 forms represent a foundational step in the regulatory approval process for ETF issuers, requiring firms to provide comprehensive disclosures regarding fund structure, operational strategy, custody arrangements, management fees, and associated risk factors.

Commenting on the timing of the regulatory paperwork, Bloomberg Intelligence ETF analyst James Seyffart noted that the ongoing revisions suggest constructive dialogue between issuers and regulators. "Another amended S-1 from [Grayscale] on the BNB ETF… have to guess they are going off feedback from SEC and trying to launch in near future? Could be the next crypto asset to get a spot ETF in the US," Seyffart observed, highlighting the potential for Binance Coin to follow in the footsteps of Bitcoin and Ethereum investment vehicles currently trading on public exchanges.
