Binance Shifts Away From Non-Fungible Tokens as Exchange Phases Out NFT Support and Migrates Management to Self-Custodial Wallet

Cryptocurrency exchange giant Binance has announced that it is officially winding down support for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the core Binance Exchange platform. As part of this strategic pivot, the management of digital collectibles is being transitioned entirely to the company’s self-custodial cryptocurrency offering, Binance Wallet.

According to an official announcement published by the company, this structural shift is designed to provide NFT holders with streamlined, direct access to Web3 infrastructure and decentralized features. By moving away from centralized exchange architecture for digital art and collectibles, Binance aims to align its digital asset offerings more closely with the broader evolution of decentralized finance and self-custody solutions.

However, the transition comes with a strict deadline for current platform users. Holders of digital collectibles on the centralized exchange have until July 3 to withdraw their transferable NFTs from the platform. The company warned that any transferable assets left on the exchange after this cutoff date will become completely inaccessible.

For users holding non-transferable NFTs—digital assets that cannot be withdrawn from the centralized platform by design, such as specific platform-issued achievement badges—Binance has established an alternative solution. Binance Academy will provide affected users with a downloadable PDF certificate of course completion to document their educational achievements on the platform.

The decision by Binance to deprecate its centralized NFT marketplace highlights a broader industry trend. Major cryptocurrency exchanges are increasingly winding down dedicated support for non-fungible tokens, choosing instead to reallocate resources toward other emerging areas of the digital asset economy, such as tokenized real-world assets and decentralized infrastructure.

Binance is merely the latest heavyweight platform to scale back or shut down its NFT operations. Earlier, competing crypto exchange Kraken shuttered its dedicated NFT marketplace in February 2025, reflecting diminished retail appetite and shifting strategic priorities across the sector. Similarly, prominent multi-chain NFT marketplace OpenSea announced that it was discontinuing support for BNB Smart Chain-native NFTs as early as August 2023, signaling early friction in multi-chain adoption for the asset class.

Binance to offer fee reimbursement for NFT migration

To ease the friction of the migration process for its user base, Binance has stated that it will roll out two distinct promotional campaigns providing NFT withdrawal fee reimbursements over a one-month period.

The first promotion covers general NFT withdrawal fee reimbursements for standard, non-CR7 digital collectibles. The second initiative specifically targets withdrawal fee reimbursements for specialized CR7-branded digital collectibles, maintaining alignment with the exchange’s high-profile partnerships.

The exchange clarified that it will select up to 100,000 eligible users to receive these reimbursements. Each selected participant will receive a credit of 1 USDC for an eligible NFT withdrawal. These funds are scheduled to be credited directly to the eligible users’ Binance spot accounts by July 3, providing a modest financial cushion to offset the transactional costs associated with moving digital assets out of centralized custody.

This infrastructure consolidation arrives against the backdrop of a prolonged downturn in the broader non-fungible token sector. Despite periodic bursts of speculative activity, leading NFT collections have struggled for years to recapture the historic all-time highs witnessed during the frenzied market peak in the summer of 2022. The dramatic contraction in trading volumes and floor prices has severely tested the resilience of digital art and collectable ecosystems across multiple blockchains.

Market data underscores the extent of this contraction. CryptoPunks, widely recognized as the largest and most historically significant NFT collection by market capitalization, has seen its floor price drift downward. The collection is currently trading at approximately 30.9 Ether, representing a staggering 61% decline from its all-time high valuation of 80.9 Ether recorded in July 2022.

The downturn has been even more severe for other marquee projects. Data compiled by NFTPriceFloor reveals that the floor price for the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection plummeted to roughly 7.9 Ether. This current valuation marks a steep 93% collapse from the collection’s explosive all-time high of 128 Ether achieved during the height of the market mania in May 2022. As centralized exchanges continue to recalibrate their business models in response to these persistent market realities, the migration of remaining assets to decentralized wallets signals a quiet retreat of major trading platforms from the volatile digital collectibles landscape.
